Meditation Situation

Ohm?It’s a theme that keeps coming up for me lately. Maybe the universe is trying to tell me something?

I have a friend who swears by meditation. Another friend wants to do it in a group setting with me (didn’t think that was the point, but whatever … being judge-y and ohm-like don’t seem to go together). I heard about it during yoga in Dewey this summer from David, a real gem who teaches on the beach at Swedes street.

And, most recently, an incredible medium named Anna Raimondi suggested I do it.

“I feel like you know how to meditate, you just don’t,” she told me.

She was spot on with that observation, and just about everything else she told me. But that’s another post for another time.

So. Time to meditate. Quiet the mind. Let me figure out a time on my calendar to do so … how’s three weeks from Thursday?

In all seriousness, I’m going to try. Obviously, I could benefit from a less chattery mind (see above). Anna suggested setting the stopwatch on my phone for ten minutes, and just sitting, breathing in and breathing out.

“Ten minutes is a long time,” she says. I wholeheartedly agree.

Am going to give it a go, but I have a strong feeling this is what’s going to happen when I do …

I had just learned how to meditate (vedic meditation, specifically) when I saw you in June but I don’t think I mentioned it! For the type of meditation I do, I was given a mantra (it’s one word that’s specific for me [and is secret – I can’t even tell Shawn what it is]; I have no idea how my meditation teacher determined it for me) and I meditate for 20 minutes two times a day. At first it seemed really unnatural, but now I really am able to zone out; it’s almost like napping. I like that I don’t need a thing to do it except something to support my back (yeah I kind of get judgey about people who think they need to buy a bunch of props and have to have one particular space *just so* in order to meditate).

Very cool, Kate, good to know! I couldn’t agree more — props to meditate? I’ve suddenly lost interest. Going to give it a go.
